We Create Awesome Stuff
We raise our cattle 100% on Grass and Forage. We do not use any steroids or hormones and minimal vaccinations and or medications. We offer both grass finished beef as well as grass raised beef finished with grain.
Our pasture management includes extensive fencing for rotational grazing, allowing our pastures to rest and grow healthy and minimize wormers and medications. We plant and manage high energy grasses and forage including resilient bahia gass pasture, high protein perennial peanut forage, as well as cool season forages such as oats and rye. By focusing on pasture management we grow fat healthy cattle.
Dexter Cattle are small cows. Our steers are ready in the range of 24-30 months of age and should have hanging weights between 350-500 lbs. A beef half typically takes 6 cubic feet of freezer space depending on cut selections and thickness. The smallest of chest freezers is adequate for a half. We enjoy Dexter beef steaks cut slightly thicker than typical commercial beef because of the smaller cut sizes.
We appreciate the healthy option of grass finished beef as well as offering traditional grain finishing. Customers opting for a grass finish should expect a leaner product with a terrific beef flavor. Our fall processing is the optimum time for a grass finish, capitalizing on a long summer of lush grazing. For those who prefer traditional grain finished beef, we provide a 90-100 day feedout process for no additional cost. We select the best quality finishing ration available high in fat and protein to add intermuscular marbling to your finished beef.
Who We Are
Our success depends on the strength of our team. We are not a factory farm where grocery store beef is processed. We are a true family farm where natural feeds, humane practices and limited herd size yields an unmatched level of quality.
Glenn’s vision of reducing dependence on corporate food supply chains took the whole family down this path and they aren’t looking back! A recovering tractor-holic and critic of poorly-stretched fence, Glenn enjoys swearing at broken implements, complaining about fertilizer costs, and dreaming of getting the list of farm projects down to double digits!

We Want to Keep Them All!
While we would prefer to grow and keep all the Dexter Cattle, we know that proper pasture stocking requires us to let some of them go to new homes. We grow out 99% of our males as steers and occasionally will save a prospect bull for future production. We rotate our bulls to retain daughters and have been growing our herd for the last several years. We are finally at the point where we will be selling some heifer calves and cows as we go forward.
Our breeding herd is 100% ADCA registered and free from Chrondodysplasia and PHA. We will have all registration and testing completed prior to offering for sale.
We maintain a wishlist for available heifers and cows. Contact Glenn to add your name to our wishlist with any specific traits you are interested in.

10 Reasons why we chose Dexter Beef
• Dexters are a multipurpose breed. They can be raised to milk, to grow for beef, and even to train as oxen.
• Dexters are extremely efficient foragers. They will graze eagerly on high quality pasture, but wll also eat brush, weeds, and native grasses that other breeds of cattle usually avoid. They require less food than their larger relatives because of their smaller size, but their exceptionally efficient feed-to-product ratio is the characteristic that distinguishes them as thrifty animals.
• Dexters are highly intelligent. They adapt very well to halter training and can be excellent competitors in the show arena.
• Dexters are a terrific breed for small acreage farms. A little more than an acre of reasonable pasture can support 2 Dexters.
• Dexters adapt well to homestead, multi-species farming. They are typically quite reasonable and can learn to co-exist with a variety of other farm animals.
• Dexters are a hardy breed. They can live in nearly any climate.
• Dexters are typically easy calvers, producing a calf every year even into their teens. They have wonderful mothering instincts.
• Dexter bulls are renowned for their docile natures.
• A Dexter’s smaller size makes them perfect for specialty farming. They are much less imposing to first-time farmers than huge beef breeds. They require less working space than large milking breeds. They are a good breed for farming retirees that still want to keep a few cattle, but can no longer handle the ardurous chores of large-scale ranching.
• Dexters are easy on the environment. Their smaller size greatly diminishes their negative impact on the land. Their naturally fertilizing manure adds nutrients to the ground. And their grazing/foraging behavior, when managed appropriately, can help build depth and richness to the soil.
